Bowman was disqualified and eliminated from the NASCAR playoffs at Roval

When Kyle Larson took victory at the Charlotte Roval, all four Hendrick Motorsports drivers managed to advance to the Round of 8. That is no longer the case.

Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48 HMS Chevrolet, was disqualified after failing post-race technical inspection. According to NASCAR officials, the car did not meet the minimum weight requirements.

NASCAR Cup Series general manager Brad Moran gave the following explanation for the DQ:

“Unfortunately, when we ran the No. 48 through, it didn’t meet the minimum weight specifications. We pulled the car aside and allowed them to fill it up, which they already did. We had them refuel it.” We run the pumps to make sure all the pickup boxes are full. We give teams every opportunity to try to meet the minimum weight.

“We also have them hook up the water and run the water through the system to make sure they are filled with water. And then we rescale it. The weight has still not been reached. We backed it up and let it run.” We went over again just to confirm the weights were correct. And unfortunately, they exceeded the minimum weight by half a percent, which is about 17 pounds. allowed and it was more than that.

Hendrick Motorsports' immediate reaction to the DQ: “We are working to understand the issue and will make a decision on Monday whether to appeal.”

Bowman had finished 18th in the race and also won Stage 2, but that's all over now. He was demoted to 38th place (last) and lost all stage points.

This means Bowman is now out of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs and two-time Cup champion Joey Logano is back in the race. Logano, driving the No. 22 Team Penske Ford, had missed the cut by just four points at the checkered flag.

This also changed things in the Drivers' Championship, as the No. 45 23XI Racing Toyota missed the race while Logano's No. 22 team continued to advance. Both teams are now ahead, with Bowman and the No. 48 HMS Chevrolet out.

Updated round of 8 playoff standings after penalty: Kyle Larson (+33 points), Christopher Bell (+13), Tyler Reddick (+10), William Byron (+4), Ryan Blaney (-4) , Denny Hamlin (-8), Chase Elliott (-9), Joey Logano (-11).

Bowman joins Austin Cindric, Daniel Suarez and Chase Briscoe, who were eliminated in the round of 16.
