Carrie Underwood's new single hits No. 1 as she returns to country

2024 has been a very exciting year for Carrie Underwood – at least the last few weeks. The singer scored a surprise radio hit and had a high-profile television gig in the future American Idol Judge. Now she's secured a new bestseller and a favorite in the genre that made her a star.

Underwood joins Cody Johnson on his new single “I'm Gonna Love You,” which was released on Friday (September 27). The duet was warmly received by fans of both musicians upon its release and it didn't take long for it to become a best seller.

At the time of writing, “I'm Gonna Love You” is ranked #1 in America's best-selling songs on iTunes. The single climbed the rankings throughout the morning, and as listeners across the country wake up to the tune, they have collectively propelled it to the top of the competition chart.

Johnson and Underwood are currently one of three new entries in the top 10 of the US iTunes charts. The Weeknd and Playboi Carti's “Timeless” ranks as the second-highest just-dropped track as it currently sits at No. 7. Right-wing commentator and podcaster Timcast airs his latest offering, “Coming Home” with Phil Labonte. into the top 10 as it comes in at number 9.

“I'm Gonna Love You” is Underwood's second new single of 2024. Just a few weeks ago, she embarked on an unlikely and well-meaning collaboration with hard rock band Papa Roach. Underwood helped rework the group's song “Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark),” which was originally included as a solo track on the rockers' latest album and now raises money for suicide prevention.

“Leave a Light On” became a bestseller on the rock charts without hesitation, and its lifespan has extended beyond a few hours of impressive sales. The melody has risen on some of them billboards for weeks in the pop airplay rankings, giving Papa Roach and Underwood a relatively unusual pop radio hit.

“I'm Gonna Love You” appears to be the lead single from the deluxe edition of Johnson's album leather. He released the full album last November and in just over a month he will re-release the set with new songs.
