Celtics Injury Report: One player is listed for Tuesday's game against the Knicks

The Celtics will, as expected, be shorthanded heading into Tuesday night's regular-season opener against the Knicks. Kristaps Porzingis is the only player out for Boston as he continues to recover from surgery on his left posterior tibialis tendon.

Porzingis suffered a rare injury during the NBA Finals last year and underwent leg surgery in July.

“It was a rare injury,” Porzingis said at media day last month. “Did the surgery right after the parade. And then I spent about three or four weeks sort of hanging out at home. And then in August I was able to start doing more. I did a lot, pretty good. I’m looking forward to continuing to progress at this rate and hopefully getting back out there with the boys as soon as possible.”

Brad Stevens originally set a timeline for Porzingis to be reevaluated in December, but was pleased with the progress he is making in his recovery.

“I think he’s very optimistic,” Stevens said at media day. “I don’t know if we are interested in setting a timetable for him as the injury is unique. But in terms of his feelings and the progress he's made, I would say we're very, very happy with his situation and maybe a little surprised.”

With Porzingis unavailable, Al Horford is expected to start at center, while Luke Kornet and Xavier Tillman also see expanded opportunities off the bench in his absence. This group will face a tough test on opening night against the Knicks' new big man, Karl-Anthony Towns.

The Celtics take on the Knicks at TD Garden in a nationally televised match on TNT at 7:30 p.m.
