Cher and Tyla appear, Kate Moss and Bella Hadid return

Cher and Tyla appear, Kate Moss and Bella Hadid return

Victoria's Secret's “Angels” hit the runway at the lingerie brand's fashion show on Tuesday, marking the return of the once-famous event that had been put on hold for years due to controversy.

The show, which was livestreamed on social media as well as Amazon Prime Video and YouTube, featured a handful of familiar faces, including Tyra Banks, Kate Moss, the Hadid sisters and Adriana Lima. Wearing variations of the brand's signature wings, models walked down the aisle to live performances from Cher, Tyla and Lisa.

The approximately hour-long event followed a similar format to previous years. But for the first time there was an all-female cast. The 50 models, who came from 25 countries, also differed in age, height and origin.

After Victoria's Secret canceled the 2019 show due to declining ratings and intense controversy, the company explained that with this year's show it aimed to “reflect who we are today” as a brand. Her most recent values statement states that she wants to represent “all women.”

This year's show “runs the gamut and everyone is welcome,” executive producer Janie Schaffer said in a livestream from the pink carpet before the event's start. “We cast each one based on their confidence and ferocity, and I think that will shine through.”

Celebrities flocked to watch the show, which followed a more subdued celebration last year when the brand streamed a remastered, partially revived filmed version of the event on Prime Video.

Here are some highlights from the 2024 event.

K-pop star Lisa, South African singer Tyla and pop legend Cher rocked the catwalk and sang some of their most popular hits.

Lisa was the first to perform, opening the show with a group of backup dancers as she sang an energetic version of her hit single “Rockstar.” She later returned to the stage with elaborate gold wings to perform “Moonlit Floor.”

Tyla also took the stage with her feathery white wings to perform “PUSH 2 START” and “Water” as the models walked alongside her.

In a dramatic finale, a choir provided the intro vocals for Cher, whose name flashed in lights behind the runway during the performance. She emerged from a cloud of white smoke and performed her hits “Strong Enough” and “Believe” as a final round of models took the runway.

Before the show began, Cher said on the pink carpet that she was “most excited” about the all-female musical lineup.

“I'm proud that women are finally in many ways – not in all ways, but in some ways – able to just find their own destiny,” she said.

The Hadid sisters and Adriana Lima are wearing their wings again

After Lisa's opening performance, Gigi Hadid was the first to hit the runway – setting a baby pink color theme as she blew a kiss to the audience in her silk romper and giant feathered angel wings.

Many netizens noted that Gigi appeared to be paying homage to one of her best friends, Taylor Swift, by waving to the audience, just as Swift did every night of the Eras Tour.

Meanwhile, Gigi's sister Bella Hadid blew the audience a kiss herself as she closed the show in bright red, wearing a flowing feather coat over a matching lingerie set.

The Hadid sisters have been fan favorites at the VS fashion shows since they became recurring faces on the runway in the mid-2010s.

And Lima, one of the most recognizable Angels in Victoria's Secret history, returned to the runway at 43 after bowing out of the company's last fashion show in 2018. Lima, who was named a VS Angel in 2000, wore iridescent butterfly wings in metallic shades of pink.

Other former Angels returning Tuesday included: Jasmine Tookes, Behati Prinsloo, Barbara Palvin, Taylor Hill and Candice Swanepoel.

Some of the industry's most famous supermodels are returning

Global supermodel Ashley Graham, 36, made her VS Fashion Show debut this year in a black lace bodysuit and wings decorated with glittering gold petals. She said in a video this week that she accepted the offer with the goal of making everyone on the show feel seen.

“I'm over the moon because I'm in my late 30s, I just had three kids, and I feel so curvy and so sexy, and my outfit is amazing,” Graham said, adding, “I'm most excited about it.” representing lots of curvy women of all shapes and sizes on the runway.”

Kate Moss, 50, also made a surprise appearance as she strutted onto the stage to “I Love Rock 'n' Roll,” wearing a black sheer lace dress and a hint of black wings.

Claudia Schiffer, who took part in her first and only VS fashion show in 1997, returned to the VS stage this year in a simple black ensemble. Schiffer, 54, was the first to wear the company's diamond-encrusted fantasy bra in 1996.

Long-time model Carla Bruni, also a singer and former first lady of France, walked her first VS fashion show this year at the age of 56. She strutted down the runway in a black corset and heart-shaped wings with beaded fringe.

The show ended with Banks leading a group of the evening's models down the runway as pink confetti rained down on the stage. Banks, the former longtime host of “America's Next Top Model,” strutted in her geometric black jumpsuit and twirled her flowing metallic cape, returning to the fashion show's runway after nearly 20 years.
