The mother of Liam Payne's son is slamming “vile reports and media exploitation” following the 31-year-old One Direction alum's death this week.

In an Instagram post on Friday, British singer Cheryl Cole, who shares seven-year-old son Bear with Payne, mourned his loss in a lengthy post.

“As I try to come to terms with this earth-shattering event and process my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I would like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being,” she wrote. “Liam was not just a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7-year-old son.

Payne, one fifth of the hit British boy band, died on Wednesday after falling from the balcony of a Buenos Aires hotel where he was staying, local Argentine police said.
