Sunday's Super Bowl rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers didn't bring the fireworks many expected as quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Brock Purdy struggled to assert themselves against two top-notch defensive units.

In the end, Mahomes and the reigning two-time Super Bowl champion Chiefs won again with a 28-18 victory in front of disappointed fans at Levi's Stadium and improved to 6-0. Mahomes was 16 of 27 for 154 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions, but he added a rushing score and 39 rushing yards.

It didn't hurt that his counterpart wasn't much better, as Purdy went 17 of 31 for 212 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions. He beat Mahomes with two rushing touchdowns, but they didn't make much of a difference and didn't help make up for his other mistakes.

Kansas City opted to rely on the ground game as its star signal-caller struggled. Veteran running back Kareem Hunt continued to turn back the clock with 78 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Senior receiver Mecole Hardman added an 18-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that sealed the win for the Chiefs.

Still, fans on social media were unimpressed with both Mahomes and Purdy and made their feelings known during Sunday's game:

Hardwood paroxysm @HPbasketball

We replaced Mahomes and Purdy with Bryce Young and Will Levis. Let's see if anyone notices

The Chiefs have proven in many ways this year that they are capable of winning, and remaining undefeated when Mahomes is not at his best is no easy task. If they can keep that up, expect them to pull off the first three-peat in NFL history.

Kansas City will look to improve to 7-0 when it takes on the Las Vegas Raiders next Sunday.
