In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Fischer first shared her cancer journey on Instagram.

“I never thought I would make an announcement like this, but here we are,” she wrote on social media. “Last December I was diagnosed with stage 1 triple positive breast cancer. After completing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, I am now cancer free.”

“Along with this news, I wanted a photo of me with my spotty pixie, looking happy and healthy. A big thank you to Angela Kinsey's husband Josh Snyder for taking this photo. It's just one example of the care they've shown me on this journey.”

Fischer had his first mammogram in October 2023, but the results were inconclusive. The actress' doctor recommended that she undergo a breast ultrasound scan, which revealed a spot on her left breast. After a biopsy, Fischer was diagnosed with breast cancer on December 1, 2023.

“Triple-positive breast cancer is an aggressive form of breast cancer but also responds well to treatment,” Fischer wrote. “In January I had to undergo a lumpectomy to remove the tumor. Luckily, my cancer was caught early and had not spread to my lymph nodes or the rest of my body. However, due to the aggressive nature of the triple-positive cancer, it still required chemotherapy and radiation to ensure it didn't come back.

She added: “It takes a village to beat cancer and I had a great village. Until this happened, I don't think I really knew how generous and kind one person can extend to another. It started with a team of doctors and nurses, all angels.

After Fischer learned the news, she sat down with her children and was “very honest with them.”

“They are 10 and 13 and would be living in the house while I was going through this,” she told the TODAY show. “You will see it. And the most important thing I wanted to tell them was that the way I appeared sick during this process were side effects of treatments. It wasn’t cancer that made me sick.”

“That distinction, I think, really calmed them down,” she added. “And then we just did it together. And they were great.”
