Cleveland Browns move to Brook Park

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The Cleveland Browns will be moving to Brook Park, 19 News has confirmed.

While the team's lease at Huntington Bank Field expires in 2028, the Browns will build a state-of-the-art facility at Brook Park.

The city of Cleveland has not yet commented on the news. Officials will hold a press conference on October 17 at 2:30 p.m.

19 News will be broadcast via live stream.

Earlier this year, the Cleveland Browns shared representations of their vision for Brook Park.

Construction of the new domed stadium is estimated to cost at least $2 billion.

From a sporting perspective, there are two things to consider here: one on the field and one off the field. Getting on the field will likely eliminate bad weather enough to have a major impact on a game.

This will upset some fans, but 19 News' Mark Schwab thinks it's frankly overrated these days.

A few years ago, the New Orleans Saints came to town on a day when the wind was about 40 degrees below zero. This was a southern team used to playing indoors. But they beat the Browns.

If it's a retractable roof, you can still have it open on nice days and feel like you're outside. When it's closed it gives you a home advantage because it's just louder.

Mark said the loudest game he's ever been to was in Houston, on a day when the roof was closed.

“It was incredibly loud. This can only help the Browns,” he said.

Not many people on the team said much about it.

However, when pressed on the issue in West Virginia, general manager Andrew Berry said he would definitely prefer to be indoors because it was simply better for the players.

Off the field, this opens up opportunities for the city of Cleveland to potentially host a Super Bowl or the Final Four.

Some people might roll their eyes when they hear the Super Bowl in Cleveland, but Detroit has hosted two Super Bowls and even Jacksonville has hosted a Super Bowl.

If they could get Super Bowls, Mark said he didn't know why Cleveland couldn't get one.

This is a developing story. Return to 19 News for updates.
