Tennessee State football celebrates its homecoming with a chance to stay in the thick of the Big South/Ohio Valley Conference race when Eastern Illinois visits Nissan Stadium.

The Tigers (4-2, 2-1) are coming off back-to-back conference wins over Charleston Southern 13-9 and Lindenwood 24-20. Coach Eddie George is proud of the resilience his team has shown in these two games but has also stressed the importance of getting off to a better start.

The Tigers only scored a total of seven points in the first quarter of their conference games.

EIU (1-5, 0-2) landed in last place with Gardner-Webb and Charleston Southern after losing 38-27 to Southeast Missouri last week. However, the Panthers beat TSU 30-17 last season.

EIU has problems on both sides. The Panthers rank last in the Big South/OVC in total offense (298.7 yards) and second-to-last in total defense (444.3). TSU isn't much better offensively (309.3), but has moved to second in the conference and 24th in the FCS defensively (322.0).
