BRIDGETON – A sergeant with the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office was killed in an apparent home invasion here Tuesday night, according to city police.

The sergeant is identified as Monica Mosley, 51.

Bridgeton police responded around 10:30 p.m. to a report of several people kicking in a front door of Mosley's home in the 600 block of Buckshutem Road, Police Chief Michael Gaimari said.

They found Mosley wounded. She died at the scene of the accident, he said.

An investigation led police to Inspira Hospital in Bridgeton and ultimately to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where a suspect was treated for a gunshot wound, Gaimari said.

The suspect was arrested for questioning.

Police are not identifying the suspect but say no one has been arrested at this time.

A statement from prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said Mosley started as a paralegal at the firm in 2006 and became a detective in 2009. Last year she was promoted to sergeant.

“Sergeant Mosley was a constant friend and role model to everyone she worked with,” Webb-McRae said in a statement.

“She will be missed more than words can describe, but her CCPO family will never forget her. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sergeant Mosley’s family at this most difficult time.”

“The men and women of the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office are deeply devastated by the loss of Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley,” the prosecutor continued. “We are committed to ensuring that Monica is remembered for who she was, how she lived and how she influenced each of our lives.”

Attorney General Matthew Platkin also expressed his condolences, saying, “Sgt. Mosley was a dedicated public servant known for her commitment to justice and her dedication to her community. We will always be grateful for their service.”

Gaimari said he has known Mosley for almost her entire career. He expressed his condolences to her family members and the staff of the Bridgeton District Attorney's Office.

“All law enforcement feels the loss deeply, but our condolences go out to her family and friends, including those who worked with her daily,” Gaimari said. “It’s really devastating.”

Gaimari said a joint investigation by Bridgeton police, New Jersey State Police and the Cape May County District Attorney's Office is continuing.

Cape May County Law Enforcement is involved due to the victim's position with the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office.

Mosley's assignment included units such as trial teams, the Special Victims Unit, the Community Justice Unit and the Professional Standards Unit (Internal Affairs). She was head of the Professional Standards Unit.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office at 609-465-1135. People can also contact the county office at CMCPO.TIPS or the Bridgeton department at BPD.TIPS from any computer, tablet or smartphone. All information shared is anonymous.
