Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office detective killed during a burglary at a home on Buckshutem Road in Bridgeton, New Jersey

BRIDGETON, New Jersey (WPVI) — New Jersey authorities are investigating after a detective with the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office was killed during a home invasion.

Bridgeton police were called to the 600 block of Buckshutem Road around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday after reports of several suspects allegedly kicking in a front door of the residence.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, 51-year-old Monica Mosley, shot.

According to Bridgeton Police Chief Michael Gaimari, Mosley, a sergeant with the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office, died of her injuries at the scene.

Through their investigation, officers were eventually led to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where one of the alleged suspects was ultimately held for questioning after being treated for a gunshot wound.

Police have not yet identified the suspect and have not released any further information.

According to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae, Mosley began her career with the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office in 2006 as a paralegal before becoming a district detective in 2009. During her time with the Crown Prosecution Service, Mosley served in a variety of units including Trial Teams, the Special Victims Unit, the Community Justice Unit and the Professional Standards Unit (Internal Affairs), where she was assigned as Division Chief.

“Sergeant Mosley was a constant friend and role model to everyone she worked with and led in the law enforcement community throughout Cumberland County and beyond,” Webb-McRae said in a statement. “She served our community with honor, dignity and respect.”

Chief Gaimari said he has known Mosley for most of her career and expressed his condolences to her immediate and extended family members as well as staff at the District Attorney's Office.

“All law enforcement feels the loss deeply, but our condolences go out to her family and friends, including those who worked with her daily,” the chief said. “It’s really devastating!”

“She will be missed more than words can describe, but her CCPO family will never forget her,” Webb-McRae added. “We are committed to ensuring that Monica is remembered for who she was, how she lived and how she influenced each of our lives.”

“Each of us should be able to feel safe in our homes, and when that security is broken, it impacts all of us,” New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said in a statement. “Sgt. Mosley was a dedicated public servant known for her commitment to justice and her devotion to her community. We will always be grateful for their service.”

There have been no arrests or charges, officials said.

The investigation is being conducted jointly by the State Police Major Crime Bureau, the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office and the Bridgeton Police Dept. Criminal Investigation Bureau. carried out.
