Dana White slams 'despicable' UFC 307 judges who botched Pennington vs. Pena: 'I felt like I was at a boxing match'

The year is 2024 and mixed martial arts (MMA) ratings are getting worse.

UFC 307 went down last night (Sat., Oct. 5, 2024) at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and boy oh boy were there some terrible scorecards handed out, including the co-main event in between Raquel Pennington vs. Julianna Pena.

Pena scored a very controversial split decision win to regain the women's bantamweight title from Pennington (24 of 25 media members scored the win for the former champion).

CEO of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Dana White was not satisfied with the assessment.

“I thought the scoring was horrible tonight,” White told the media during the UFC 307 post-fight press conference (watch here). I felt like I was at a boxing match in Ireland tonight.

When he was asked again what he thought about it Mario Bautista vs. Jose Aldo When he ruled, White doubled his bet.

“The judging tonight was cruel. I'll leave it at that. It was cruel.”

UFC has been around for 31 years and somehow it feels like the rating has declined instead of improved, which is a huge problem. When the promotion goes to another city that doesn't have many regional MMA events, there are usually bad regional referees because of their experience. At UFC 307, the Las Vegas judges (who judge almost every weekend when UFC is at the Apex) submitted the terrible scorecards.

The biggest problem with this is… there is no cure for poor judgment in sight (unless they get fired mid-map like this idiot). It will continue like this because every weekend there is a UFC event, and by the next weekend everyone will have forgotten about it because UFC Vegas 98 will have another lousy results list. Then the cycle repeats and repeats and repeats.
