Danny Green is hanging up his sneakers after 15 NBA seasons and three championships.

He announced his retirement from the NBA on Thursday, calling it “an incredible journey that I am immensely proud of”:

The swingman played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers and Memphis Grizzlies during a career that began in 2009.

Green entered the league as a second-round pick in the 2009 NBA Draft and played his rookie season with the Cavaliers.

Still, he only stayed with Cleveland for one season and didn't establish himself as an impact player until his third year in the league with the Spurs. He played in San Antonio for eight seasons, which was his longest stint with a franchise during his career.

During his time with the Spurs, he won his first ring in 2014 and became a key secondary playmaker, able to exploit the gaps that came from working with players like Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard and Manu Ginóbili.

Green hit 39.6 percent of his three-pointers during his time with the Spurs and hit 45 percent of his three-pointers in the 2014 NBA Finals win over LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

He wasn't done winning championships yet as he teamed up with Leonard again, winning a ring during his only season with the Raptors in 2018-19 and then reaching the pinnacle of the sport alongside James with the Lakers in 2019-20 . He famously hit six three-pointers in Toronto's third game against the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 NBA Finals.

From there, Green moved to the 76ers, again to the Cavaliers and to the Grizzlies. He played only 11 games in the 2022-23 season and two games in the 2023-24 season as he struggled to fully recover from the torn ACL and ACL he suffered during the 2022 playoffs.

It may not have been the ending he envisioned, but Green had an impressive career, averaging 8.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game over his 15 seasons while shooting 40 percent from three -point distance shot.

As ESPN's Shams Charania noted, he is also just one of four players in league history to win championships with three different franchises. It is this postseason success that he will likely be best remembered for, as he found a way to maximize his talents as a key role player on a number of talented teams.
