Deion Sanders admits Shilo Sanders played 'horrible' in Colorado's loss to Kansas State

On Saturday, Colorado defensive back Shilo Sanders returned to the field after missing three games with an arm injury that required surgery. After Colorado's 31-28 loss to Kansas StateBuffaloes head coach and Shilo's father, Deion SandersHe assessed his son's comeback performance.

“I thought he played terribly” Sanders said. “I thought he was rusty. I thought he had no grip. I thought he wouldn't collapse. He wanted to try to make the play, but in the open field, one-on-one and with this type of defense it's not an easy task. But he will do better. I know what’s inside him.”

Kansas State running back DJ Giddens sent Shilo Sanders into fits all night long, shaking him several times in the open field. At one point in the game, Sanders attempted to hit Giddens head-on near the line of scrimmage and ended up on his knees as Giddens slid past.

Worse, when Sanders managed to get a hold of a wildcat, he struggled to hunt it down. On numerous occasions, Kansas State players interrupted Sanders' tackle attempts for extra yards.

Despite his numerous mistakes, Sanders still finished the game with seven tackles, the fourth-most on the team. Still, it was far from a stellar performance for Sanders or his defensive colleagues.

In the Big 12 battle: Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson completed 15 of his 23 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns compared to one interception. Most notably, Johnson threw a 50-yard touchdown pass Jayce Brown take a 31:28 lead with just over two minutes left in the game.

Colorado did not respond. In the end, it was a frustrating night for the Sanders family.

“Sometimes when you lose you think, 'Damn, we should have won that.' We should have had that,'” Deion Sanders said. “(Tonight) was one of those games … for us, we felt like we forgot about that. And we have to make better use of our chances to win the game, because we had several.”

Colorado will have a chance to bounce back next week when they face each other Arizona at 4 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on FOX.
