Deshaun Watson's Browns teammates anger fans for booing quarterback after Achilles injury: 'Should be ashamed of themselves'

Deshaun Watson's Browns teammates anger fans for booing quarterback after Achilles injury: 'Should be ashamed of themselves'

The Cleveland Browns fear Deshaun Watson tore his Achilles tendon on Sunday afternoon.

But despite the loss of their starting quarterback, many Browns fans were pretty happy that he was on the field and finally able to leave it.

Watson is in his third season with Cleveland after signing a guaranteed $240 million contract, and it's safe to say he hasn't fared nearly as well as everyone had hoped.

On Sunday, he played his seventh game of the season, which will prove to be the most he has ever played with Cleveland.

In addition, Watson's problems off the field – more than two dozen allegations of sexual assault – led to him being absent from football for almost two years. It's understandable that Browns fans are upset with Watson's performance since their false hope didn't come true, but both Myles Garrett and backup quarterback Jameis Winston have voiced their opinions about their fan base booing their quarterback.

“We don’t boo guys who are injured on the field, especially when the car comes out. We should be ashamed as Browns and as fans to boo someone who goes down,” Garrett said after the game. “For it to be a season-altering and career-altering injury, the man isn’t perfect, he doesn’t have to be. None of us expect to be perfect. I can't judge him by what he does on the field or off the field. “I can't throw stones out of my glass house, but we have to do better. Nobody deserves that.

STEELERS LEGENDS SUPPORT KAMALA HARRIS AHEAD OF TRUMP'S PERFORMANCE AT GAME VS JETS

“You'll see him busting his ass to get back here and putting a smile on his face and trying to leave everything that's outside the facility behind him. Death threats come to his house, against his family, nobody deserves that.” … The man does pretty much everything right. He was a model citizen during his college days and most pros play the game as hard as anyone I've ever seen, he puts it all on the line and is willing to put his body on the game at 100 miles an hour and that Risk of being injured. He took this risk, we have to be there for him as a team, as an organization. We can't look down on mistakes on the field or anything off the field. We have no moral reason to look down on the guy.

An emotion Winston offered in his will.

“I am very upset by the reaction to a man who has had the world against him for the last four years and who puts his body and his life on the line every day for this city. Regardless of your perception, regardless of what you thought. “If it happens to him, he's made sure I'm here every day to be the best he can be for this team… I know what the usual hungry fans want, but I will never attack a man when he's done.

“I don’t want the treatment that Deshaun Watson received from these passionate fans. I know you love this game. When I got here I knew they were great fans, but Deshaun was treated badly and now he has to beat someone else. “So I'm going to support him, I'm going to lift him up and I'm going to be there for him. I see how he fights, I see how he works, and I know who he is as a person and as an NFL quarterback.
