Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings: First Quarter Recap and Second Quarter Discussion

The first quarter at US Bank Stadium is officially in the books and your Minnesota Vikings lead the Detroit Lions by a score of 10-0.

The Lions got the ball first in this game after the Vikings won the coin toss and moved on to the second half. Thanks to a big sack by Andrew Van Ginkel, the Vikings' defense forced a quick three-pointer and waited for the punt, but the Lions settled for a fake that was blocked by Minnesota special teams, giving the offense the ball at the Detroit 34.

The Vikings only needed two plays to get into the end zone, and they did so with great success, thanks to returning Aaron Jones, who took a handoff from Sam Darnold and ran 34 yards for a Minnesota touchdown, giving the Purple a 7th gave -0 lead.

Then on Detroit's second possession, the Vikings forced a three-and-out, and this time the Lions actually struck, giving the Vikings the ball at the 20 after a touchback.

Minnesota's drive stalled at the Detroit 39, but that's certainly possible for Will Reichard, as the baby-faced assassin booted the ball with a 57-yard field goal to extend Minnesota's lead to 10-0. The Lions then made another three and put the ball back to Minnesota, with the Purple taking control deep in their own territory after a punt return penalty.

Unfortunately, the Vikings couldn't do anything due to a few penalties on the drive and hit a punt for the first time today. At the start of the second quarter, the Lions face a 1st-and-10 from their own 43-yard line.

We're through the first quarter in Minneapolis and the Vikings are leading this Lions NFC North battle by a score of 10-0. Join us in the second quarter of the game!
