SALT LAKE CITY – After signing an eight-year contract with the Utah Hockey Club during training camp, forward Dylan Guenther has already started earning every penny. With a team-high four goals in the preseason and two in the home opener of the regular season, including the first goal in franchise history, Guenther proves he is a rising NHL star.

Why the Utah Hockey Club invested in Dylan Guenther

It didn't take long for the Utah Hockey Club to recognize Günther's exceptional talent. After scoring 35 points in just 45 appearances a season ago, those in charge quickly realized that they were on the safe side and wasted no time in tying Günther for the long term.

Although he's more than just a goalscorer, lighting the lamp is arguably what he does best. He is a constant threat with a deadly accurate shot from anywhere within the zone. He also has a high level of awareness and elite positioning that allows him to consistently find open areas of the ice from which to shoot. Simply put: Günther is about as dangerous as it gets.

Additionally, Günther is a talented creator as he can use the attention he attracts to create opportunities for his teammates. He also has great hands, is a solid contributor on special teams, and plays hard on both ends of the ice.

“He is a great player,” said head coach André Tourigny. “People just see him as a scorer and he's much more than that. “He handles the puck well, he defends well, he works hard, he's a good predictor, he's got a great stick, he's good at the PK , he can do a lot more than just shoot… he’s a lot more than just a shooter.”

Dylan Guenther is highly respected by his teammates at the Utah Hockey Club

Before the Utah Hockey Club's home opener, newly named captain Clayton Keller looked into his crystal ball and looked to the future when he correctly predicted that Guenther would score the first goal in franchise history.

Early in the first period, Utah fans saw what Keller predicted when Guenther demanded the puck, smashed a one-timer from above the faceoff circles and sent the Delta Center into a frenzy after lighting the lamp for the first time in Utah Story.

“He is a special player. He works super hard. He's so talented and a guy I've enjoyed playing with over the last year and a half. He will be a big part of our team and is certainly a star,” said Keller.

As the game continued, Guenther and his teammates posed a problem for Chicago throughout the night as they created a plethora of opportunities, maintained a stifling possession in the offensive zone, had several shots off the post, and Guenther eventually scored a second goal late his goal was doubled in the third period on an open net.

Sure, there was no goalie as the Blackhawks opted for an extra attacker, but Guenther still stormed in after a shot went wide and cleared it into the open net to secure the win.

What fans see from Günther is just a taste of what the next decade will look like from No. 11. He is remarkably gifted in many ways and will have the opportunity to be one of the standouts for Utah for many years to come.
