Early voting begins in Georgia, Utah

Georgia and Utah began early voting on Tuesday, joining the vast majority of states where the 2024 elections have already begun.

Georgia is one of the most competitive states in this cycle

Georgia has voted Republican in all but two elections over the past four decades. The first was former President Clinton's landslide victory in 1992, and the second was in 2020, when President Biden carried the state back to Democrats by 11,779 votes.

A victory for either candidate would make their path to victory easier. The Peach State has 16 electoral votes up for grabs, and with recent polls showing a close race, it is in the Toss Up rankings in the Fox News Power Rankings.

Democrats are doing well in metro Atlanta, where more than half the state's population lives, and particularly in the densest Fulton and DeKalb counties. There is a higher concentration of black and college voters there.

The surrounding suburban areas also help Democrats get better votes, but the further out you go, the more competitive the counties become. Cobb County (Biden +14) and Fayette County (Trump +7) are great examples, north and south of Atlanta.

Republicans are making big gains with rural voters, who are found almost everywhere else. The GOP won all but 30 counties in the last election, with many of the biggest victories coming in the barren Northwest and Southeast regions.

Vote by mail

Georgia began voting by mail on Tuesday. Residents do not need to provide an excuse to receive a ballot. State officials must receive a ballot application by October 25th and that ballot must be delivered to state officials by November 5th.

Georgia offers early voting from October 15th to November 1st.

The deadline to register to vote in Georgia was October 7th.

Vote by mail

Utah residents do not need to provide an excuse to receive a ballot. State officials will proactively mail ballots to eligible voters from October 15-29. Those ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 4 if mailed or hand-delivered to state officials by Nov. 5.

Voter registration

Utah residents have until October 25 to register to vote online or by mail. You can also register in person during early voting October 22-November 1 and on Election Day.
