Edwin Diaz of the revamped Mets has scouts worried

The Mets will try to secure a spot in the National League Championship Series with a home win on Wednesday night.

To accomplish that, they will need strong performances from both starter Jose Quintana and the bullpen against a difficult Phillies lineup.

Will that include Edwin Diaz, who blew his eighth save of the year on Sunday after giving up three runs in the eighth inning of Game 2? After Sunday's outing, reports surfaced of anonymous Boy Scouts expressing concern about the closure.

According to SNY's Andy Martino: “Scouts who follow the series say Diaz is far from himself. “Basically he doesn’t have his slider right now,” one evaluator said.”

One scout told Jon Heyman of the New York Post: “Can’t throw his fastball for a strike. He's clearly struggling with himself, especially with his fastball. Too many sliders.”

Speaking to reporters after Sunday's game, Diaz wasn't worried about his stuff.

“I’m 100 percent confident,” Diaz said. “It's part of the game. We played against a really good team.”

The Mets will look to beat this team at home on Wednesday to avoid another trip to Philadelphia.
