Elliot Cadeau was gearing up for a big sophomore season for the UNC basketball program

Sophomore point guard Elliot Cadeau returns to Chapel Hill this fall for what is expected to be a breakthrough season.

As a freshman, Cadeau showed early signs of potential, but had some issues with the consistency of his shot. Cadeau finished the 2023-2024 season shooting an extremely disappointing 18.9% from behind the goal and 41.7% from the field.

During the UNC basketball program's media day last week, Cadeau was asked about his biggest weaknesses, the most notable being his shooting, of course, and how he had worked to improve this offseason.

“I think it's going great,” Cadeau said of his three-point shot, “You'll all see it.”

But beyond shooting, Cadeau emerged as one of the Tar Heels' best playmakers in his first college season, leading the team in assists per game with 4.1. His speed and athleticism are a perfect fit for North Carolina's fast-paced style of play, and we'll likely see more of that this season.

In fact, North Carolina guard RJ Davis said in a recent interview with On3 Sports, “This is the most athletic team I've ever been a part of.” While the Tar Heels have always been known for their fast-paced game, Davis said, “In This season it will be faster.”

Cadeaun also appeared on the legendary Dick Vitale's preseason watch lists as one of the country's “top floor generals,” alongside players like Alabama's Mark Sears and Purdue's Braden Smith.

Everyone is excited to see what Elliot Cadeau can do on the field as the season approaches. With his renewed focus on shooting and an insanely athletic team at his side, he looks set to have a breakout year and should be one of the best second-year players in the country.
