Ex-KORN drummer DAVID SILVERIA on the 30th anniversary of the debut album: “The right five guys came together at the perfect time”

On Saturday (October 12), the day after the 30th anniversary of the release of GRAINis the self-titled debut album, the band's original drummer David Silveria took to Instagram to share the LP's cover art, adding the following message: “When I was 10 years old I got my first drum set. I knew then that I wanted to play music for people all over the world. Then I met the guys and everything came true. Without the fans around the world, my childhood dream would have come true. The right five guys came together at the perfect time and made history.

“I am sincerely grateful to the boys for their incredible creativity, their absolute dedication and hard work and their commitment to the band. I love you so much! Thank you to everyone who gave me this incredibly blessed life! 30 years and it feels like yesterday! I love you all :)”.

In a 2021 interview with Rocking With Jam Man: David Silveriawho left GRAIN More than a decade and a half ago people asked whether there was a chance of a return GRAIN Just in time for the group's 30th anniversary. He replied: “Of course we should all talk to each other. So far I can't imagine that something like this will happen. But you never know. You just never know.”

Silveria also spoke about his decision to drop out GRAIN Back in 2006. He said: “I left the band for a number of reasons. One of them was that at the beginning we were all equal members and everything was supposed to be voted on and everyone had an equal say in everything. And that.” Slowly, a different way of working developed that I absolutely did not agree with. And at the same time three days before I shot the last video (2005). “See you on the other side” (Album), I was lifting weights in my garage and squatting, holding dumbbells and there was a TV above me. And I crouched down. Something on the TV caught my attention and I fell backwards, landing on the floor. And I actually broke four bones in my lower back… It actually took me a few years to get my back repaired. But I was in so much pain that I couldn't even do anything.

In 2019 Silveria revealed that he apologized to his former bandmates for the “wrong and mean” things he had said about them since his split from them GRAIN. The drummer was said to be particularly upset that the band welcomed back a guitarist Brian “Head” Welch 11 years ago, but I wouldn't do the same for him. Which left the group in 2005 and continued working as a solo artist before rejoining in 2013.

“Afterwards I was immature, hurt and angry Head (joined again GRAIN,) They wouldn't let me back in,” Silveria wrote in one Instagram Post. “Especially because the year before Head came back, I spoke to him personally Head and tried to get him, along with me, to talk to the boys about us both returning GRAIN. At that time, Head said, 'Davidyou and I are good friends. But don't call me if you're just trying to get back to me GRAIN. I will never return again.' Then, less than a year later, he returns GRAIN. During our phone call he said very negative things about GRAINwhich I won't repeat. The things I said were wrong and mean. I didn't say anything negative about it GRAIN for years. I have the greatest respect for the boys and appreciate each and every one of them.”

In June 2019 Silveriasaid he would be willing to mend ties with his former bandmates. “Yeah, I wouldn’t have a problem with that at all,” he said during an appearance on the TV show “Appetite for distortion” Podcast. “I have no problem with anyone at all. I just think at one point our communication broke down so badly that our managers called other band members and said, 'Okay, we've talked to them.' Jon (Singer Jonathan Davis) about this or that. He wants to do this or that.' And I think, “Why not?” Jon talk to us? Why does it happen like this?' And it got worse and worse, to the point where we weren't talking at all – no one was talking at all. It was so strange. I don't even know why the hell it ever happened. It's been so many years that, at my age, I couldn't even imagine that a relationship would ever fail so badly and I wouldn't just walk up and say, 'Hey, we need to work this shit out.' That's ridiculous.” '

When asked why he couldn't rekindle his relationship with his former bandmates, even if it was just on a friendly level, David said, “I really don’t know why. I guess you’ll have to ask these people.”

Silveria sued GRAIN in February 2015, insisting that his departure from the group was merely a break and that he was rebuffed when he tried to return to the band in 2013. David said he still has an ownership interest in it GRAIN and asked a judge to force the band to disclose how much money it has made since his departure so he can get his rightful share. GRAIN filed a countersuit and both sides reached an agreement in 2016 that provided for this Silveria give up his rights GRAIN future royalties in exchange for a lump sum.

A few years ago, Davis told The pulse of the radio that he believed Silveria had lost his passion for playing music, saying: “On the first two albums I think he really enjoyed playing drums, and after that he just lost his love for playing drums. This is what happens.”

David told fans this in 2013 GRAIN hasn't been the same since he left, saying, “Until they get the real 'funky drummer,' it just won't groove as much as it could.” I made it clear that I would come back and get the groove back.”
