Experts warn of fraudulent ticket sales practices as US Oasis tickets go on sale soon – NBC Chicago

As tickets for the North American leg of the highly anticipated 2025 Oasis tour go on sale this week, experts are warning fans about fraudulent practices that have arisen due to massive global demand for the tour.

After an abrupt breakup in 2009, the Britpop band known for global hits like “Wonderwall” and “Don't Look Back In Anger” is on tour next summer through five cities in North America, including a stop in Chicago Soldiers' Field on August 28, 2025.

The band's Soldier Field show will be its first in the Chicago area since its December 2008 appearance at Allstate Arena in Rosemont as part of the “Dig Out Your Soul Tour.”

Although there are no tickets on sale yet, many ticket resale sites are offering what experts call “speculative ticketing,” in which scalpers essentially sell fans an “IOU” for tickets they haven't yet purchased.

Additionally, the sites provide consumers with a sense of urgency as listings come with warnings such as “Sold out fast” and “Only 4% of tickets left.”

Although Oasis ticket prices for their North American shows have not yet been announced, tickets are being offered on resale sites for up to $2,300 each.

Ticketmaster and Live Nation, its parent company, are warning fans not to fall victim to the sky-high prices.

“Resale markets in this country are operated only by professional ticket brokers who engage in all sorts of anti-fan behavior such as using bots to steal tickets, special ticketing, selling outright fake tickets and making misleading claims about the tickets “It's really a mess,” Dan Wall, executive vice president of corporate and regulatory affairs at Live Nation, told NBC Chicago.

Wall said in many cases fans don't actually get the tickets they purchased. Wall advises fans to check whether a ticket has officially gone on sale. If this is not the case, do not trust individuals or company resellers who claim to have tickets before they go on sale.

NBC 5 Responds is also investigating complaints from people who claim tickets were transferred from their Ticketmaster account without their knowledge or permission.

Wall said customers should change their Ticketmaster password without reusing the old ones and set up two-factor authentication to trigger an alert if someone tries to log into your account.

Oasis issued a statement earlier this week clarifying that the band will not be using the dynamic pricing model for the UK/Ireland dates, as tickets for these dates will go on sale at the end of August. Dynamic pricing increases ticket prices during times of high demand.

Tickets for Oasis Live 25's North American shows will go on sale Friday, October 4th at 12pm local time.

In addition to the Soldier Field show next August, Oasis will play the following shows in North America next year:

  • Rogers Stadium, Toronto, Ontario: August 24th, 25th
  • MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey: August 31, September 1
  • Rose Bowl Stadium, Pasadena, California: September 6th, 7th
  • Estadio GNP Seguros, Mexico City, Mexico: September 12th and 13th

American rock band Cage the Elephant was announced as the support act for the North American leg of the tour.
