FC Cincinnati midfielder Marco Angulo was hospitalized after a car accident in Quito, Ecuador, the MLS club confirmed.

According to an Ecuadorian newspaper El universeIn 2011, a black SUV crashed into a bridge on a stretch of highway under construction. Firefighters identified five people in the car, although one person, believed to be the driver, had already died.

Carlos Semblantes, the deputy director of traffic control for the Ecuadorian National Police, later confirmed that a second person had died.

Angulo is currently on loan at LDU Quito and joined the Ecuadorian club in March.

LDU Quito confirmed that the 22-year-old was taken to hospital, but did not provide any information about the player's condition.

In its own statement, FC Cincinnati said it was working to obtain more information.

“Our thoughts are with him and his family as we hope for his recovery, and our thoughts are with the families of those deceased and injured in this tragic accident,” the club said.

Angulo moved from Independiente to FC Cincinnati ahead of the 2023 season. In 2023, he made 24 regular-season appearances, including nine starts, and recorded two assists.
