Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler arrested in Tennessee and charged with drunk driving and weapons possession: reports

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested in Franklin, Tennessee on Thursday and charged with driving under the influence and possession of a handgun, according to multiple reports. According to the reports, he was released after posting $5,000 bail.

According to the reports, Cutler was also accused of failing to exercise reasonable care to avoid a collision and violating implied consent. All charges against the 41-year-old are either misdemeanors or civil offenses under Tennessee state law.

Police responded to a report that Cutler had rear-ended another car Thursday night, prompting officers to question him. According to police, Cutler smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and had slurred speech.

After refusing a field sobriety test, police obtained a search warrant and took Cutler to a nearby hospital to have his blood alcohol level tested. Police found a loaded handgun and another firearm in Cutler's car.

Cutler played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins. The Broncos selected Cutler with the No. 11 pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. The Vanderbilt product spent his first three seasons with the Broncos before playing eight years with the Bears. Cutler retired in 2017 after one season with the Dolphins.

His only Pro Bowl season was 2008, his final year in Denver, in which he rushed for a career-high 4,526 yards. Cutler finished this season with 25 passing touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
