Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested for drunk driving in Williamson County

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WSMV) – Jay Cutler, a former National Football League quarterback, was arrested in Williamson County this week.

Franklin Police Department officers responded to the 200 block of Bridge Street for reports of a two-vehicle accident. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that Cutler had rear-ended another vehicle and pulled him aside for questioning.

During the interview, officers reported a strong odor of alcohol coming from Cutler, as well as slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, Franklin PD reported. Cutler also refused a field sobriety test, prompting officers to take him to a local hospital for a blood draw.

During a search of his vehicle, officers found two firearms, including a loaded handgun, according to Franklin PD.

Cutler, 41, was taken into custody Thursday just before 7 p.m. According to prison records, he was released around 10 p.m.

He is charged with four counts, including driving under the influence, possession of a firearm under the influence, failure to exercise due care and implied consent.

Cutler played for the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins during his 12 years in the NFL. He also played his college ball at Vanderbilt University. The Broncos drafted him in the 1st round of the 2006 NFL Draft (11th overall).
