Freeze warning for metro Atlanta; Freeze warning for the mountains of far northern Georgia

Metro Atlanta will see one of the coldest nights of the season Wednesday night and wake up to possible frost early Thursday morning.

“We're going to see clear skies across the entire area…we've got clear skies, we've got dry air and we're getting northerly winds pushing really cold air our way. And that's exactly what's going to happen throughout the night and into the early morning hours tonight,” said David Chandley, chief meteorologist for the FOX 5 Storm Team.

Temperatures in and around Atlanta will hover in the mid to low 30s overnight, which may lead to frost forming. “Mottled frost areas for sure,” Chandley said.

A freeze warning is in effect north of a line from LaGrange through Stockbridge to Madison, including the entire Atlanta metropolitan area.

Residents in the area should not only wrap themselves and their loved ones, but also cover sensitive plants and, if possible, bring hanging or potted plants indoors.

In far northern Georgia, expect temperatures to drop below freezing, possibly even into the upper 20s.

A freeze warning is in effect for Fannin, Union, Towns and Rabun counties from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday.

Residents there will also want to protect exterior pipes during these hours.
