Goldie Hawn reveals the NSFW secret of her relationship with Kurt Russell

Goldie Hawn says relationships aren't about overdoing it.

In fact, after more than 40 years with a partner Kurt RussellShe says there is a key element to building a successful, long-term relationship.

“You have to have good sex,” she said exclusively E! News September 27 at their Love-In Gala celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Goldie Hawn Foundation and MindUP. “Because sex is something that connects and creates more belonging. People who have healthy sexual relationships tend to last much longer. But it’s not just the performance, but also the warmth and intimacy it creates.”

But the truth is, being with someone for so many decades is no small feat, and Goldie – who has a son together Wyatt Russell with Kurt and children Kate Hudson And Oliver Hudson from her second marriage – also explained the importance of remembering that at the end of the day, there are still two single people in a relationship.

“You know you’re not the same person,” he said First Wives Club Star explains. “You don’t often think in the same way. And you have to accept that, but you also have to measure: Are we having fun or is this something we want to do? Do we laugh together? Do we share certain things? You don't have to share everything.

She continued: “We have high expectations, I think, about relationships, but you have to like the person. That's very important.”

And since a relationship is actually two people, Kurt also had important insights into what makes them click.

“I think most people who have been together for a long time have one thing in common,” he added E!. “And that means that after so many years together, you have experienced pretty much everything you can experience together and understand all the ups and downs and what they mean.”

The 73-year-old added: “I love the fact that we met and still do. We still enjoy being together.”

And they still enjoy being together, having never felt the need to get married in their nearly 50 years together. It's a fact that's close to Goldie's heart, having been married twice before her relationship with Kurt.

“It's always ugly,” the 78-year-old told CNN last year about the divorce Chris Wallace. “How many divorces are fun? How many divorces actually cost no money? How many divorces leave you hating the person more than before? How many divorces have harmed children?”

Instead, she prefers to wake up with Kurt and “make decisions every day” to continue their partnership.

“Relationships are hard,” she noted. “They are not always easy. There are all sorts of hurdles we have to overcome. There are things we believe in and things we don’t believe in, things we agree on.”

Goldie added: “Ultimately it's important to stay independent and think independently so you can hold on to yourself and actually have that feeling.”
