Halle Berry joins Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo in “Crime 101”

Halle Berry has finally signed on to join Amazon MGM Studios' upcoming thriller Crime 101, adding additional star power to a feature that already stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Barry Keoghan.

The film – which diversity understands that filming is scheduled to begin in two weeks – based on the short story by Don Winslow, directed by Bart Layton (“American Animals”, “The Imposter”). Layton, who executive produced The Tinder Swindler among numerous other unscripted series, wrote the script.

Winslow's original story concerns a series of high-profile jewelry thefts on the Pacific Coast Highway that have gone unsolved for years, largely because the perpetrator lived by a strict code he calls “Crime 101.” Police attribute the thefts to Colombian cartels. But Detective Lou Lubesnick's gut feeling is that it's just the work of one man. Now the lone jewel thief is on the hunt for the legendary bottom line, and Lou breaks all of Crime 101's rules.

“Crime 101” is produced by Tim Bevan of Working Title and Eric Fellner and Shane Salerno of The Story Factory; Raws Layton and Dimitri Doganis; and Derrin Schlesinger. Raw's Joely Fether will serve as executive producer. Hemsworth – who, like Ruffalo and Keoghan, is also still officially negotiating for a lead role – will also produce alongside producing partner Ben Grayson.

“Crime 101” caps a busy period on the big screen for Oscar winner Berry, who this year starred in the survival thriller “Never Let Go” and the spy comedy “The Union.”

Berry is repped by WME, Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole, The Lede Company and Range Media Partners.
