“She was an extraordinary person and I got to know her over the years,” Hillary said of Ethel. “She had a wicked sense of humor. She was a completely devoted mother and wife and a friend to so many people. She checked in from time to time to see how Bill and I were doing. I always thought that in many ways she was a real role model for someone who got into politics through marriage. She suffered a great tragedy with the loss of her brother-in-law and then her husband and some of her children. And she just had an indomitable spirit. She lived a long, good, eventful and purposeful life and I will miss her.”
