Honda and Acura vehicles have been recalled in Canada due to accident risks

Hundreds of thousands of vehicles are being recalled in Canada because of a steering problem that could increase the driver's risk of an accident.

Approximately 239,000 newer Honda and Acura vehicles have been voluntarily recalled by manufacturers due to a defective part in the steering gear.

Honda said in a news release Wednesday that the problem could increase the risk of an accident or injury because it may be more difficult to steer.

“An improperly manufactured gear worm wheel can swell when exposed to ambient heat and moisture, reducing the thickness of the grease film between the worm wheel and worm wheel,” said Honda Canada.

“In addition, the tension on the worm gear spring was set incorrectly, which increased the sliding force between the components. Excessive friction between these components can result in increased steering effort and difficulty, or “difficult” steering.”

A similar recall was conducted south of the border and affected approximately 1.7 million vehicles in the United States

Drivers of the following vehicles are asked to arrange a free repair at an authorized dealer:

• 2022-2025 Honda Civic Sedan
• 2022-2025 Honda Civic Hatchback
• 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Sedan
• 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Hatchback
• 2023-2025 Honda Civic Type R
• 2023-2025 Honda CR-V
• 2023-2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid
• 2023-2025 Honda HR-V
• 2023-2025 Acura Integra
• 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S

Mechanics would add grease and replace the working gear spring, the company said, adding that drivers of these vehicles would be notified of the problem by mail.
