How the Season 2 Premiere Explains Teddi's Absence

SPOILER ALERT! This post contains details about CBS' Season 2 premiere. Tracker.

The premiere of the second season of tracker gives the audience an answer to why Teddi Bruin won't be around often to help Colter Shaw with his cases of the week.

Robin Weigert, who played Teddi in the first season, left as a series regular before the second season.

While the first episode doesn't go into much detail, it does explain that Teddi is out of town to help her mother.

“She’s going to be there for a while,” Abby McEnany’s Velma Bruin, Teddi’s wife, tells Colter over the phone in the first few minutes of the episode. “She helps her mother find her way.”

Justin Hartley's Colter points out that Velma was supposed to be going back and forth between her home and where Teddi is, but Velma says she felt like she was “standing in the way” and decided to come back and to get back to work helping Colter.

It's unclear if this means Weigert will appear at all this season or if Teddi will stay with her mother for the long haul.

Teddi is a former tour manager for rock musicians who has now settled into comfortable middle age in North Florida with her wife and a number of pets. Together, Teddi and Velma run Colter's “back end”: They look for new jobs, keep track of the money and occasionally get him out of prison.

In the premiere, Velma Colter helps track down a family of four who seemingly disappear from Pine Bluffs, Arkansas. Velma says in the episode that she will also help Reenie (Fiona Rene) open her own criminal law practice this season.

New episodes of tracker Airs Sundays at 8:00 PM ET/PT.
