You unlock the opportunity to test your royal virtues naturally just by playing the game. During the prologue you go into the mines with Grius and Strohl and meet your favorite author More.

From here you can test your royal virtues as you go about your business in the overworld. As long as you're not in a dungeon or cutscene, you can click on the prompt at the bottom of the screen to watch your crown grow into the role of ruler.

There are two things to note here: You don't need to check this unless you're trying to figure out how best to spend your time on a given day. We recommend checking your followers list to see if there is a black handshake icon next to someone. When you click on it, you'll usually see something like, “I don't think (NAME) will speak to me with this level of eloquence.” That's usually your cue to read the proverbial books.

You can also talk to them in the overworld and see the Symbol of Virtue with a number next to it. Here's what unlock condition is required to move forward.

Your first chance to improve your eloquence comes when you leave Grand Trad with your fancy new Gauntlet Runner. If you look in the lounge you will see a bookshelf in the back right corner.

As the game progresses and you expand your squad, new books appear on the shelves. How it happens Pride and conviction is one of the first books you collect automatically, ready to go as soon as you set off.

As you move between towns and dungeons, you can usually perform an action, such as: E.g. talk to a group member and promote their friendship, cook, clean or read a book.

It will take two or three sessions to become familiar with each book. Once you've read the book, you'll be able to increase your virtue scores enormously and for free.

The fastest way to increase your Eloquence will be unlocked shortly after the King's Contest begins. Go to King's Rock and look for that elevated platform where you would normally see a crier like Batlin in a cutscene.

During the Brilehaven portion of the game, your fellow claimants to the throne will occasionally jump on these and begin preaching to the masses. These are fantastic options for four reasons:

  1. Beating them in debate increases your eloquence…
  2. It also stimulates your imagination…
  3. While you receive a cash reward of 5,000 Reeve…
  4. And who doesn't love to knock down their enemies once or twice?

When you see someone on the stage, save the game and then jump onto the stage to deal a blow to the opponent.

You're asked to choose an answer to the opponent's statement – unlike the Persona games, which test your knowledge of everything from kanji to mathematical theories, the answer here is pretty obvious. If necessary, re-read the conversation transcript, but simply choose the answer that best suits your character.

For example, if someone says, “Only the strong are allowed to live in my society,” say, “I think everyone should be treated equally.”

If it's done right, Gallica will praise you for wiping the floor with your opponent. However, if it breaks down and tells you that you screwed up, just load the game and try again! Your reward is a huge stat boost, a few grand, and the pride that comes from destroying your enemies.

It's also worth noting that you can get on stage and speak to your adoring crowds even if there's no one to debate against. You just won't get the fantasy or cash bonus that comes with an in-depth debate.

Learn from your friends

Reading books isn't the only way to increase your elegance while riding the Gauntlet Runner. After you leave Brilehaven, you unlock a new party member who is particularly eloquent.

Stopping the Gauntlet Runner for a night gives you the opportunity to spend time on deck with them while improving your eloquence.

Since this is one of the few recurring ways to increase your Eloquence outside of debates around town, you should prioritize it over the other virtues when traveling.

If you are at the end of the game and your eloquence has not yet been exhausted, we strongly recommend that you watch a show. Beginning in late September, the Altabury Opera House will perform five propagandist plays for the Sanctist Church. Each will raise a specific attribute for the princely sum of 1500 Reeves.

In this case, you want to watch The youth and his stewards – the story of a clever boy who sets out to exterminate some monsters. By listening to the boy's skillful negotiations, you can improve your eloquence by seven points.

Isn't it enough to be a great person? NO? Fine. By fully utilizing your five royal virtues, you will become “the heroic embodiment of lost heroes and the offspring of a forgotten hero-king.”

More specifically, it unlocks the ability to unlock Heroic Incarnation for your other party members.

The other two unlock conditions are, of course, getting the party member to Friendship Rank 8, and then the daunting task of unlocking and leveling up the correct archetypes for each character. My God, that costs a lot of MAG…

In fact, advancing your party members to Rank 8 also depends on your ability to max out your Royal Virtues, each requiring their own level. The final companion to join your party requires Rank 5 Eloquence to become a Rank 8 Follower.

That's everything you need to know about Eloquence Metaphor: ReFantazio! For more information, see our guides on unlocking all followers, archetypes, and endings.
