Ind vs NZ 1st Test – Weather Watch for Bengaluru – Rain and Thunderstorm Forecast for Last Day

The promised rain has failed to materialize long enough in Bengaluru to put the first India-New Zealand Test in a position from which any outcome is possible – with New Zealand certainly faring better – but the weather could yet have the final say.

Fulfilling the ministry's forecast not long after a downpour brought an early end to play on matchday four, India's ministry said Bengaluru would have “generally cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers” on Sunday, while Accuweather's forecast ” Thunderstorms in the area late “promised Saturday night into Sunday evening.”

Looking at the game situation, with New Zealand starting the day looking for the 107 runs they need and having all ten of their second innings wickets in hand, this will come in handy for India, who can hope there isn't enough time for that Runs that must be scored. New Zealand, fresh from a 2-0 Test series defeat in Sri Lanka and widely viewed as underdogs in this Test series, will want the opposite: a clear spell of cricket, perhaps for a session in which they can aim for the target.

The first day of the Bengaluru Test had no play at all as persistent rain caused the covers to remain in place throughout the day. The game began the next morning, still overcast, with the New Zealand fast bowler running amok after India opted to bat first, taking the hosts to 46 in 31.2 overs. They then put on 402 and India replied with 462, giving New Zealand a seemingly modest target.

As mentioned earlier, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium has a world-class drainage system and an underground ventilation system that is expected to allow matches to begin within minutes of the rain cessation.
