India are going all out to score a record home Test low of 46 against New Zealand

New Zealand fast bowlers Matt Henry and William O'Rourke batted together against India on the second day of the weather-affected first Test in Bengaluru on Thursday, posting their lowest ever home score of 46.

India were dismissed in 31.2 overs in the second session after opting to bat under cloudy skies. The opening day of the Test was a blur.

It was India's third lowest Test score ever.

India's previous lowest score at home was 75 against the West Indies in New Delhi in 1987. Their lowest total is 36 against Australia in a pink-ball Adelaide Test in 2020.

Rishabh Pant top-scored with 20 in an innings that featured five ducks, including that of star batsman Virat Kohli.

Henry ended the Indian innings with a five-wicket haul and his final knock against Kuldeep Yadav was his 100th Test wicket.

Tim Southee struck first in the seventh over with the score at nine, bowling Indian captain Rohit Sharma through the gate with a sharp inswinger after making two.

O'Rourke struck in his first over to catch Kohli at leg gully without increasing the score, silencing the stunned home crowd.

Sarfaraz Khan came in at number four after replacing Shubman Gill, who was suffering from stiff neck.

But he only lasted three balls, with Devon Conway taking a good one-handed catch at wide midfield to leave India reeling at 10-3 within 10 overs.

A brief rain break followed, but when the players returned there was no respite for India.

O'Rourke sent back Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was caught by Ajaz Patel to make the score 13 at 31.

KL Rahul, caught behind Tom Blundell, was another duck as India fell to 33-5 and then 34-6 at the lunch break.

The wickets continued to fall and shortly after lunch O'Rourke and Henry dismissed the remaining four batsmen, supported by some great catches.
