Jack McVeigh beats the buzzer as Houston wins in the second preseason game at Oklahoma City

Australian native Jack McVeigh, who signed a two-way contract with the Rockets this offseason, hit the buzzer in Houston's 122-113 preseason win at Oklahoma City on Wednesday night, forcing overtime.

With Houston trailing by two points with 1.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter, McVeigh secured the rebound after Jermaine Samuels Jr. missed an intentional free throw. From there, the 28-year-old, 6-foot-1 striker beat a midfielder as time expired to level the game at 106 apiece.

McVeigh was surrounded in celebration by his teammates and the Rockets won easily in overtime. Known as a sharpshooter, McVeigh scored the final points of the show with a dagger 3-pointer in overtime with less than 30 seconds to play.

In eight minutes played, McVeigh scored 7 points and 4 rebounds on 3 of 4 shooting (75.0%), including 1 of 2 from 3-point range (50.0%). The Rockets were +14 as a team in those minutes.

For Houston, it was a feel-good win against a Thunder team that led the Western Conference with a 57-25 record in the 2023-24 regular season. The Rockets had a record of 41-41.

Both Houston and Oklahoma City are now 1-1 in the 2024-25 preseason.
