Jamal Adams' dismal run with the Titans ends with birthday release

Jamal Adams got his birthday wish.

The Titans released the former Jets safety, who turned 29 on Thursday, after he requested it, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.

Adams played in three of six games for the woeful Titans, recording four tackles in 20 snaps. NFL.com noted that Pro Football Focus gave Adams an unimpressive grade of 49.8 on those limited plays.

Adams is healthy, Schefter said, and “looking forward to his next opportunity.”

The question now is: will another opportunity come?

Adams was released by the Seahawks last offseason and saw a significant decline in his play compared to his three consecutive All-Pro seasons from 2018 to 2020.

Adams saw limited playing time for a 1-4 Titans team that ranks among the worst in the NFL.

Adams' departure from the team was announced when the Titans strangely placed him on the reserve/non-football injured list on Saturday, even though he was already out for the Week 6 game against the Colts with a hip injury.

“We are working on some things that are not yet finished. I'll leave that out for now,” Titans coach Brian Callahan told reporters Wednesday after the 20-17 loss to Indianapolis.

Adams signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract with Tennessee this offseason.

The Jets selected Adams with the No. 6 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and he was a star and leader on defense for three seasons.

The Jets then traded Adams to the Seahawks before the 2020 season for two first-round draft picks, a third-round pick and safety Bradley McDougald.
