Jayden Daniels Injury: Adam Schefter Reveals Severity of Commanders QB's Injury, Week 8 Status

Adam Schefter joined The Pat McAfee Show on Monday to provide an update Jayden Daniels after the Washington Commanders quarterback suffered a rib injury in Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers.

According to Schefter, the Commanders don't believe the injury is too serious and the quarterback has a chance in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears. If he can't go, back up Marcus Mariota will stand in for Daniels again.

“About an hour ago, people in the organization didn't know how he was doing and were still waiting for word,” Schefter explained. “So they were happy that his mom tweeted that he was OK while they're still waiting to hear how he's actually doing. They don't yet know whether he can be there on Sunday.

“…I don't think it's serious, but they don't know yet if he can play this week. They're still waiting to hear this. Again, they need to put together a game plan. I don't know if you'll have it or not. Marcus Mariota would start if Jayden Daniels couldn't. I just think it’s uncertain right now, that’s the fairest way to put it.”

Even though Daniels was healthy enough to return to the game against Carolina, the Commanders didn't need him as they defeated the Panthers 40-7. The aforementioned Mariota took over for Daniels and threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns. With the win, the Commanders are 5-2 and in first place in the NFC East.

Since 2020, Daniels has been one of the main reasons the Commanders have a chance at the major league title. The former LSU Tigers quarterback has completed 75.3 percent of his passes for 1,404 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions in his first six games this year. Daniels was also strong in the running game, recording 322 rushing yards and four touchdowns (not including the total from the Panthers game).
