Louisville football fans are in for a treat.

The Cardinals' game against sixth-ranked Miami featured a 100-yard kickoff return, a Heisman Trophy contender and an appearance by Teddy Bridgewater in front of the second-largest crowd at L&N Stadium.

The announced crowd of 59,115 witnessed anything but a Miami loss as the Hurricanes (7-0, 3-0 ACC) remained undefeated with a thrilling 52-45 win over U of L (4-3, 2-2). stayed. Bridgewater returned to his alma mater as his No. 5 jersey was honored. But it was his hometown university that made enough plays down the stretch to secure victory.

Like Miami's six other opponents, the Cardinals struggled to contain Heisman hopeful Cam Ward. The Hurricanes' quarterback scored touchdown passes of 27 and 49 yards on the team's first two possessions of the game, giving them an early 17-7 lead. He finished the game with 319 yards and four touchdown passes.

The Cardinals finally managed to put some pressure on Ward by recording three sacks. Two of them came during the same drive, when defensive linemen Jordan Guerad and Dez Tell beat the Hurricanes' signal-caller.

Costly mistakes didn't do the Cardinals any favors in the first half. After a team special penalty took Louisville to the 3-yard line to start the second drive of the second quarter, freshman running back Isaac Brown fumbled the ball. Miami defensive end Simeon Barrow made it into the end zone to give The U a 21-14 lead.

On the next drive, U of L kicker Brock Travelstead missed a 52-yard field goal. He recovered and ended the first half with a 23-yard kick.

After trailing by two points early in the third quarter, the Cardinals scored 14 unanswered points and tied the game at 31 points. Caullin Lacy got things started with a 100-yard kickoff return that energized the stadium.

Louisville's defense set up quarterback Tyler Shough's 21-yard touchdown pass to Ja'Corey Brooks, who was held without a catch in the first half. Defensive lineman Thor Griffith forced a fumble and fellow lineman Guerad recovered it.

Miami running back Ajay Allen broke another 38-38 tie with a 2-yard run. Louisville had no answer and couldn't pull off the surprise.
