Jenna Fischer reveals one of the first people she called after her cancer diagnosis was a fellow celebrity

Jenna Fischer shares more about her breast cancer journey.

“The Office” star spoke exclusively with “Today's” Hoda Kotb and revealed who was one of the first people she contacted after the diagnosis.

“I called (Christina Applegate) and she answered the phone and said, 'Which one is it?' And I said, 'It's breast cancer.' And she said, 'I fucking knew it,'” Fischer recalled.

She said she postponed her routine mammogram before finally going in for the exam.

“Three weeks later they said, ‘Oh, your mammogram was fine. There were a few places that were difficult to see. They have a very dense tissue. “We would recommend that you have another mammogram and perhaps follow up with a breast ultrasound,” Fisher said.

She said she had “no level of concern” when she was told she needed to have a biopsy and was alone when she received the results from her patient portal.

“I checked the portal on the hike and I saw words like 'invasive,' 'ductal,' 'carcinoma,' 'malignant,'” Fischer said. “And I thought, 'These words sound like cancer words.'”

She said she relied on her support system, including Applegate, who herself was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. Fischer said her friend's reaction wasn't surprising.

“She’s salty,” she said of Applegate. “That’s salty language. I love her for that.”

Fischer has undergone chemotherapy and said the best advice she's received is: “Live your life through this process.”

“I did that. And some days I just walked circles in my own living room,” she said. “Some days I walked around the block. But I got up every day and did these things. And I think it made a really big difference.”
