Joel Klatt panics after losing to Texas in the Red River Rivalry in Oklahoma

From the start of SEC play, the offensive issues were evident Oklahoma. Seth LitrellThe unit fights against it Tennesseewhich ultimately led to a quarterback change Jackson Arnold To Michael Hawkins. The results, however, were not much better Auburn before perhaps hitting rock bottom in a rivalry game against him Texas on Saturday.

Now it's time to go South Carolina In the matchup, Joel Klatt raised the panic meter on Oklahoma's offense. Watching the Sooners again on film, the FOX analyst's assessment isn't exactly pretty.

“The panic indicator should be raised,” Klatt said. “They rank 125th in total offense. I told you, when that team lost to Tennessee, I said, 'This isn't a Jackson-Arnold problem.' It was everywhere. They were terrible offensively and it hasn't gotten any better. When I watched them on film, they weren't even close to being as good on the offensive side. Not even close. I know that sounds harsh, but it’s true.”

Klatt admits that the things Oklahoma is going through are far and away my Hawkins' fault. Five of their top receivers didn't play against Texas, while the offense hasn't been good all season. Not having a lot of running game only makes things worse. Hawkins, Arnold or maybe even Patrick Mahomes would struggle with what's happening in Norman, according to Klatt.

More worrying than anything is how deep Venables is in his tenure and how poor the offense is. Yes, Jeff Lebby left for Mississippi State last offseason, but Klatt is worried.

“The honor definitely goes to Texas and its defense,” Klatt said. “They are the No. 1 team in the country in my eyes. But man, Venables is in the third grade and this is the offense he's putting out there? Alarm bells, alarm bells.”

Klatt sees the need for a complete reboot for Venables this offseason. Most likely just with his offensive skills, but he finds a way to improve the talent around whoever becomes quarterback in 2025.

“I think Brent Venables needs to completely revamp the offensive side of the game,” Venables said. “Since it’s not working at OU right now, it comes from the Red River Shootout.”
