Justin Herbert's injury status updated by insiders ahead of Chargers vs. Broncos

Justin Herbert's injury status updated by insiders ahead of Chargers vs. Broncos

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is nearly 100 percent healthy for the AFC West game against the Denver Broncos in Week 6.

Herbert's absence from appearing on the final injury report says as much, although his admission earlier in the week that he will likely still be wearing the splint for his sprained ankle is important context to remember.

On Saturday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler added more details about Herbert's injury status.

“Justin Herbert, we have a healthy ankle now,” Fowler said. “He's been struggling with this high ankle sprain for the last month and I'm told he's been in real pain for the last few weeks. But now that the bye week is over.”, much better, no problem, so he can move around, maybe a little game action. They feel good where they are.”

Better mobility for Herbert — coupled with the return of offensive tackle Joe Alt and perhaps the return of Rashawn Slater as well — should be the key to getting the offense back on track.

The new offense, hand-picked by head coach Jim Harbaugh and coordinated by Greg Roman, has been met with a lukewarm response so far, in part because of those injuries. With the star quarterback getting healthy just in time for a critical AFC West road game, it appears to be the best-case scenario for the Chargers to get back on track.
