Kamala Harris and Tim Walz's presidential campaign can't stop patronizing American men

Donald Trump is for the boys. After recently appearing on Theo Von, Lex Fridman and Andrew Schulz's podcasts, the former president has made strategic moves to solidify the male voice. With a tight race in swing states and just weeks to go, Kamala Harris has tapped her running mate, self-described Midwestern dad Tim Walz, to win back these men. Until now, marketing has consisted of blaming men or serving them with stupid stereotypes.

Walz kicked off his Dudes Rock tour Friday morning with former NFL player Michael Strahan, now on ABC Good morning America. The pair talked about how Walz's time as an assistant high school football coach was a “career.” Politically Called it that, preparing him for politics.

In September, he boasted, “I also took football back from the Republicans.” The month before, Walz said he was “the anti-Tommy Tuberville to show that football coaches aren't the stupidest people.”

Democrats' targeting of football fans, hunters and other male hobbyists may seem harmless, but it is actually the same gender reductionism that conservatives are often accused of. No man wears a camouflage hat and camouflage jacket. Also, don’t go pheasant hunting in Minnesota and joke about being a “knucklehead.”

But while Walz has tried a healthier approach, other pro-Harris messages have not followed suit. Although not affiliated with the campaign, Democratic content creators have posted crude ballots at basketball games, urinals and bars. “Your voice is private,” one card reads. “You don't have to tell your boys you're voting for Harris/Walz.” Suggesting that voting for Democrats is an embarrassing secret to keep from your friends highlights that many young men actually do Support Trump.

Another card reads: “Trump fucks up girls.” Vote “Harris Get Laid” and reduce men to monkeys whose only priority is immediate sexual gratification. “Republicans want to ban OnlyFans. Search Project 2025” and “Your Girlfriend Isn’t Safe in Donald Trump’s America.” “Abortion Bans Kill” were printed on other cards.

Characterizing young men as self-indulgent fools incapable of choosing intelligently is unlikely to appeal to men with any self-esteem. The cards don't even represent an attempt at flattery; They simply assume that men are the lowest common denominator. But this is nothing new from the progressive left.

For decades, many on the left have shown open hostility toward men, condemning them as the root of all evil in society. Masculinity is toxic. Traditional male courtship in dating is patriarchal. Harris took part in the pre-confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was under a humiliating investigation into unsubstantiated allegations of sexual assault.

Rather than empowering men who have been demonized and emasculated by progressive culture, the Democrats' strategy appears to be to secure their vote as a form of repentance. If you vote for Harris, all will be forgiven.

On the other hand, if you vote for Trump, don't expect any pity.

In fact, men who oppose Harris as a candidate are considered to have the basest motives. “What frustrates me is that there will be some men in our society who refuse to vote for a potential female president because they believe that women are not smart enough to be president,” said a former professor at the University of Kansas was caught saying what he said during a lecture that went viral. “We can line up all these guys and shoot them…scratch that from the shot. I don’t want the dean to know I said that.”

A 90-second pro-Harris ad circulating on social media that was so ridiculous that some speculated it was a paid Trump satire continued the caricature of men as meek hunters and fishermen.

“I'm man enough to enjoy a barrel-proof bourbon,” a male actor begins, followed by others saying, “I'm man enough to cook my steak rare.” “I'm man enough to deadlift 500.” and then braid the S-out of my daughter's hair.” “I'll tell you something else that I'm definitely not afraid of. Women.” The ad promotes the left's vision of a reformed masculinity comprised of rueful emotional sensitivity and performative female worship.

“I am man enough to be emotional in front of my wife,” the ad continues. “I'm tired of so-called men dominating, demeaning and controlling women just to make them feel more powerful.” “I love women who support their families.” “Women who choose not to have a family.” “Women who Take responsibility.” “And I’m man enough to help them win.”

To borrow Walz's attack on JD Vance: This is all just…weird.

My late father was a veteran of the Vietnam War. His masculinity had nothing to do with his affinity for scotch, fly fishing, or the annual Army-Navy game. His strong moral compass and the care and protection of his family made him the man he was. More than any message Harris and Walz and their staff have made to date, my father's frequent recitation of the West Point cadet's prayer to his children got to the heart of how many men will vote this November.

“Let us choose the harder right rather than the easier wrong, and never settle for half a truth when the whole can be won.”
