Kamala Harris Hires Molly Shannon to Reprise 'SNL' Character Mary Katherine Gallagher for Al Smith Dinner Video

Kamala Harris did not attend the Al Smith Dinner in New York tonight, a traditional campaign event where presidential candidates burn each other and themselves.

Instead, Harris hired Molly Shannon to reprise her role as Catholic schoolgirl Mary Katherine Gallagher, a nod to the benefit dinner that raised money for the Al Smith Foundation. Smith was the first Catholic presidential candidate in 1928.

“Is there anything you think I shouldn’t address tonight?” Harris asked in the video.

“Well, don’t lie. “Thou shalt not bear false witness to thy neighbor,” said Shannon as Gallagher.

“Well, especially your neighbor’s election results,” Harris replied.

In another moment, Gallagher urged Harris not to “say anything negative about Catholics.”

“I would never do that, no matter where I was. That would be like criticizing Detroit in Detroit,” Harris said in another swipe at Trump.

Harris then turned serious, saying the dinner offered a “rare opportunity to put partisanship aside.”

Trump personally attended the event and attacked Harris for not doing so.

Trump wrote: “I just found out that Lyin' Kamala is giving a video message tonight instead of being at the Al Smith Dinner. She should not be allowed to make a video message. Kamala was expected to be there like almost every other presidential candidate in their history, with the exception of Walter Mondale, who lost 49-1. They didn't give me the option to send a video message and I wouldn't have. This is very disrespectful to everyone involved. She should be here, otherwise she will lose the Catholic voice!”

Jim Gaffigan, who plays Tim Walz Saturday Night Live Host the dinner event this season. Among those in attendance were Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and state Attorney General Letitia James, who filed a lawsuit against Trump and his companies.
