Kamala Harris visits Philly Deli outside CNN City Hall in Delco – NBC10 Philadelphia

Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is speaking to Pennsylvania voters again as Election Day is less than two weeks away.

Harris is scheduled to speak at a community event in Delaware County on Wednesday at 9 p.m. The event – ​​hosted by Anderson Cooper – will be broadcast live on CNN and will ask questions from undecided voters. Outside City Hall, Harris visited the famous 4th Street Delicatessen at 700 South 4th Street on Wednesday afternoon for a volunteer honor event.

Harris took photos with attendees, kitchen staff and deli owners before giving a speech to the crowd.

“What an extraordinary experience for all of us – employees and guests – here at Famous 4th Street Delicatessen to have Vice President Kamala Harris pay us a visit and spend some time interacting with each and every one of us,” said the deli's owner, Al Gamble said. “We are honored to continue the tradition of welcoming politicians and elected officials around Election Day each year, and we believe this is a true testament to our mission to bring everyone together.”

Wednesday's visit is Harris' second stop this week in Pennsylvania. On Monday, October 21, Harris attended a campaign rally in Malvern with Liz Cheney. Cheney – a Republican and former congresswoman from Wyoming – has been vocal against former President and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump since the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. During Monday's event, Harris and Cheney made a bipartisan appeal to Republican voters, accusing Trump of “using the power of the presidency to humiliate and divide us.”

“People all over the world are watching,” Harris said Monday. “And sometimes I worry a little bit about whether we as Americans really understand how important we are to the world.”

Cheney said her background as a conservative means she prioritizes the Constitution over her political party and she is concerned about handing over foreign policy to a “completely unpredictable, completely unstable” Trump.

“Our opponents know they can play Donald Trump,” she said. “And we can’t afford to take that risk.”

Trump PA spokesperson Kush Desai sent NBC10 a statement in response to Monday's event.

“Showcasing irrelevant former 'Republicans' of the past at campaign rallies does not change the fact that Kamala Harris is running to extend her record of unlimited illegal immigration, rising prices and endless wars abroad for another four years. Another incompetent Harris administration is the last thing Pennsylvanians want or need, regardless of Liz Cheney’s opinion,” Desai wrote.

Pennsylvania is a key battleground state that recent polls show is expected to play a crucial role in the outcome of the 2024 election campaign, which is currently a dead heat between Harris and Trump.

Trump has also focused heavily on Pennsylvania, holding several campaign events in the key state, including an appearance at a McDonald's restaurant in Feasterville on Sunday where he worked behind the counter serving french fries. The appearance was intended to troll Harris, who has talked about working at one of the fast-food chain's restaurants in Alameda, California, in 1983, when she was a student at Howard University.

Without evidence, Trump accused Harris of lying about the experience to bolster her credibility among the working class. Trump repeated his claims on Sunday.

“It was a big part of her resume that she worked at McDonald's – what a hard job that was,” Trump said. “She…made the french fries and talked about the heat: 'It was so hard.' She’s never worked at McDonald’s.”

Harris spokesman Ian Sams responded to Trump in a statement sent to NBC News.

“When Trump is desperate, all he can do is lie,” Sams said. “He can't understand what it's like to have a summer job because he was handed millions on a silver platter only to screw it up.”

Former President Barack Obama and music legend Bruce Springsteen will also appear in Philadelphia on Monday, October 28, for a campaign rally in support of Harris.
