Key WR returns, Pro Bowl RB is out for the Bills' Week 6 game against the Jets

While one key offensive player returns to the Buffalo Bills lineup, another leaves the roster.

The team has released its list of inactive players ahead of its Week 6 clash with the New York Jets. While the list does not include wide receiver Khalil Shakir, it is led by running back James Cook. Safety Mike Edwards, offensive lineman Will Clapp, defensive tackle Ed Oliver and linebackers Edefuan Ulofoshio and Joe Andreessen round out the list.

Shakir returns after missing Buffalo's Week 5 game against the Houston Texans, an ugly loss in which the team's wideouts totaled just four catches in his absence. The third-year pass catcher initially suffered his ankle injury in the first quarter of the Bills' Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens and exited the game with an illness; The ever-reliable receiver currently leads Buffalo in catches (18), yards (230) and touchdowns (two) despite missing one game.

Although Shakir should breathe life into the Bills' tired receiving corps, Cook is a major loss to the team's rushing attack. The third-year tailback, who is currently dealing with a toe injury and was listed as questionable on the team's final injury report this week, has rushed for 309 yards and four touchdowns this season; He has totaled 432 scrimmage yards and five total scores while averaging an impressive 5.3 yards per touch. Veteran Ty Johnson and rookie Ray Davis will lead Buffalo's running game in his absence, with some Josh Allen sprinkled in; Undrafted free agent rusher Frank Gore Jr. was also selected for Monday's matchup, and it wouldn't be shocking if he got some carries over the course of the game.

This is the second straight game Oliver has missed after suffering a hamstring injury in practice prior to Week 5; he was expelled earlier this week.

Notably absent from the inactive list is nickel cornerback Taron Johnson, who suffered a forearm injury on the seventh snap of the Bills' Week 1 clash with the Arizona Cardinals. His return to the lineup should provide a major boost to Buffalo's defense, which has struggled with injury issues for most of the season.
