The Utah Jazz's first preseason road trip ended on a bittersweet note for Keyonte George.

It all started on Wednesday. After the Jazz arrived in Dallas to prepare for their game against the Mavericks, George took a quick trip to Lewisville, his hometown, where he was able to talk to his former high school's basketball players and give them new equipment. This was clearly a highlight that meant a lot to the second-year guard.

Then on Thursday night, George had a really nice game, hitting 4 of 5 from 3-point range and putting up 14 points in just 17 minutes.

But early in the third quarter, George slipped on the crossover and twisted his knee awkwardly.

He spent a few minutes on the pitch before his teammates helped him as he was unable to put all of his weight on his left leg. The Jazz later said George suffered a mild left knee sprain and would not return to the game.

The good news is that the Jazz specifically used the word “mild” when describing the situation, which they wouldn't have done if they felt it would mean a long-term injury for George.

Obviously, any type of injury is bad news, but if George has to miss a few preseason games, it would provide additional opportunities for players like freshman Isaiah Collier and second-year player Brice Sensabaugh, both of whom have had impressive performances in Dallas .

Even though Collier's shooting wasn't great – an area he'll need to work on throughout the year to improve – his passing was incredibly impressive on Thursday.

He finished the night with seven assists, four of them on passes to Lauri Markkanen.

“He's shown us in camp and during these preseason games that his decision-making ability probably goes beyond his age, especially with the speed at which he plays,” Jazz head coach Will Hardy said after the team's 107-102 win over the Mavericks .

“It's not the passes when he's on the edge and standing that are really impressive, it's the ones when he takes off downhill and can read.”

The Jazz's preseason tour will remain in Texas for a few more days as they take on Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night before returning home to play the Sacramento Kings next Tuesday.
