LA Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh leaves the Broncos game briefly for health reasons

Former Michigan and current Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh briefly left the sideline during Sunday's game against Denver due to an apparent illness, causing a stir in the football community.

Harbaugh later returned to the Los Angeles sideline as the Chargers defeated the Broncos 23-16. The head coach explained the reason for his short-term departure during his press conference after the game.

“It’s called atrial flutter,” Harbaugh said. “I had a fit with it today. The doctors examined me and I returned to sinus rhythm, the normal rhythm. I could see there were some irregular beats.”

Typically one to keep his team's injury information under wraps, Harbaugh made a joke about his own health, which he happily accepted.

“I’m medically qualified to talk about this,” he joked. “If it’s me, I can.”

Harbaugh revealed that he has had a brief history of atrial flutter in the past, including another time when he was coaching an NFL game.

“I had a couple of ablations, one in 1999 and one in 2012,” he said. “I always remember the game in 2012 because it was during the Monday Night game. Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers against the Chicago Bears, and Colin had a great night that night. In the end I had to undergo an ablation because.” But I couldn't get back into the rhythm, 2-0 with arrhythmias.

During his weekly press conference on Monday, current Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said he had a text exchange with Harbaugh over Harbaugh's minor health concern.

“I sent him a text message. He’s going to the doctor today,” Moore said. “He'd better go!” I hope he’s okay.”
