Liam Payne's hotel manager urged authorities to “send someone in urgent cases” by calling 911

The receptionist at the hotel where singer Liam Payne was staying in Argentina pleaded with authorities to “send someone in need” in a frantic exchange with emergency services before his death, according to a recording of the call obtained by ABC News.

“We need to send someone urgently because I don't know if the guest's life is in danger because he is in a room with a balcony and we are worried that he might do something that endangers his life,” the worker said on Wednesday evening to the emergency services.

Payne's body was found in the hotel's courtyard, where he was pronounced dead at the scene, Alberto Crescenti, the director of SAME, Buenos Aires Emergency Medical Services, told ABC News.

“We have a guest who is under the influence of drugs and alcohol,” the hotel manager said on the call. “If he's conscious, he'll destroy everything in the room.”

“You said alcohol and drugs?” The emergency responder responded.

“That’s right,” said the hotel receptionist.

Authorities in Buenos Aires have not confirmed evidence of drug use that existed at the time of Payne's death.

The 31-year-old singer shared a YouTube video in 2023 in which he revealed that he had been sober for six months after spending nearly 100 days in a rehab facility in Louisiana.

According to police, Payne was staying at the Hotel CasaSur in Palermo, Buenos Aires, when he fell approximately 12 to 45 feet from a hotel balcony.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene at 5:11 p.m. local time, seven minutes after receiving the emergency call, but said there was no way to save the man – whose identity was only revealed after he was confirmed dead Authorities said injuries were “very serious” and “incompatible with life.”

Payne joined One Direction when the group formed in 2010 after appearing on the show “X Factor.” The group also included Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson.

The band announced their hiatus in 2015 and Payne began a solo career, releasing the song “Strip That Down” in 2017 and the album “LP1” in 2019.

When he was 29, Payne said he had a “better handle on life” after taking time for himself after becoming “someone I didn't really recognize anymore.”

The singer said he wanted to focus his energy on being a better father to his son Bear, whom he shared with singer Cheryl Cole.
