Liberty advances to the WNBA Finals for the second straight year with a revenge victory over Aces

There will be a new WNBA champion in 2024.

The desired rehabilitation has been achieved and the Liberty return to the Barclays Center to play for their first title.

A year later, a round earlier, and in a not-so-pretty Game 4, the Liberty got their revenge against the Aces, who beat them in four games in the 2023 Finals and then punched their second straight ticket to the WNBA Finals with a 76 -62 win over Las Vegas at Michelob ULTRA Arena on Sunday.

The Liberty entered the fourth quarter with a narrow three-point lead and two of their starters – Leonie Fiebich and Jonquel Jones – each picked up four fouls.

Courtney Vandersloot also wore three.

However, they were able to keep their composure in the last quarter after a turnover and a foul-heavy game and did not commit any turnovers in the last 10 minutes.

The Liberty opened the final quarter with their first two shots, including a drive by Sabrina Ionescu.

The star guard then hit her fifth three-pointer of the game to give Liberty a 7-0 run and its largest lead of the game to that point (11 points).

Jones followed with a 3-pointer and Fiebich added a basket in the paint and two shots from the free throw line to lead the Liberty to the victory.

The Liberty had lost just one game in a row this season and maintained that lead on Sunday.

They also stopped the Aces' league record of 12 straight playoff wins.

A key factor for New York was Ionescu's comeback after scoring just four points in Game 3.

She scored 22 points on Sunday, shooting 5 of 8 from distance, followed by Breanna Stewart with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

They were able to hold the Aces to just 32 percent shooting.

A'ja Wilson scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Las Vegas.
