“Lions and Saints may be shockingly pursuing Raiders star in trade”

“Lions and Saints may be shockingly pursuing Raiders star in trade”

The Lions or Saints could shockingly pursue Maxx Crosby, the Raiders' star defensive player, in a trade this season. According to Bleacher Report, Las Vegas would not accept a deal for multiple first-round picks in exchange for Crosby. However, it doesn't look like paradise for the team as frustrations continue to mount, including a resignation from Crosby by head coach Antonio Pierce. The Raiders should probably reconsider, but understandably he's the face of this franchise, so it might be harder to pull off a trade, but it's not impossible.

Star wide receiver Davante Adams is already a hot trade candidate, so there's no doubt that Crosby will likely be the most shocking trade. However, Crosby remains loyal to the Raiders, but the question is how long will that remain the case before he demands a new winning culture? The Eastern Michigan product was a fourth-round draft pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and recorded 57.5 sacks, 20 pass deflections, three fumble recoveries and 341 total tackles. The prominent pass rusher has two All-Pro nominations and three Pro Bowl selections.

Crosby is at the peak of his career. Although he denies any possibility of a swap, he could make a request if frustration continues to mount. He may have a better chance of landing with a team like the Lions or Saints to lead them to a future Super Bowl championship. Crosby may have downplayed the gesture toward Pierce, but it's something to keep an eye on as the trade deadline approaches.

New life in Detroit

The Lions are probably one of the most explosive teams in the NFC. After the stunning win in Dallas, the team appears to be a contender again. Detroit has been a changing team since Jared Goff, Aidan Hutchinson and head coach Dan Campbell took over. However, things could change drastically since Hutchinson's injury, leading to a potential blockbuster transfer.

Hutchinson will be out this year, meaning they need new life for their pass rushing unit. One source believes the Lions should take Crosby, but that seems like a possibility to some. Detroit has already lost pass rusher Marcus Davenport, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the Lions made a trade. The Lions would likely become a superstar team if they miraculously signed Crosby.

No one should expect this trade to happen this year, but it's something to keep an eye on and shouldn't be a surprise if Crosby requests a trade and wants to head to Detroit.

Additional defensive depth

If Dennis Allen wants to make a move this season, he would likely keep his job going forward. Chase Young was nothing more than an insurance free agent signing, having recorded just 10 solo tackles and 1.5 sacks so far. However, the offense is lacking weapons for rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler, so they need to do something to improve the roster, even if that means adopting a “defense wins championships” attitude. This could be the route the Saints could likely take as Derek Carr recovers and they will eventually have stability in their passing game.

Baker Mayfield tore them apart in their last game, showing that a Crosby trade to improve would make sense.
